Judging  – Topic “Architecture”

Thank you for judging for the Huntsville Photograhic Society!  We greatly appreciate your contribution to help us promote the art and science of photography in our community.  The buttons below will take you directly to the entries and judging forms.  More information on the judging interface is given below if needed.

The February meeting will be at 6:00 pm on Monday  March 28 at GigaParts.  We would like to have your juding results as soon as possible to give us time to prepare the presentation for the meeting on Monday evening.  At  the meeting, all the entriew will be shown and you are encourged to discuss any that you wish to comment on.  We hope that this is an educational experience and encourage you to teach us all to become better photographers.  You may also add comments to the judging form.  These can be shown during the meeting along with the photos.  The comments can also be shown with the photo on the website, again for educational puprposes.  After showing all the entries at the meeting, the honorable mentions and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced.

Note the important judging information section below.

Photos and Judging Forms:

Judging pages:  There are two judging pages, one for the color and one for the mono entries, that are entered using the Judge Digital Color and Judge Digital Mono buttons above. A ‘thumbnail’ is shown for each entry, and next to it is a pull-down menu where you can provide your ratings for the best photos.

Please designate your choice for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, along with HM’s (honorable mention).  There should be only one 1st, one 2nd, and one 3rd. The number of honorable mentions may be up to 10% of the total number of entries in that category, rounded to the nearest integer.

The judging pages also provide the ability to  see the photos at the resolution as submitted by the photographer. The first time you click on one of the thumbnail images on the judging pages, a new window will open to display the image of a black box.  There should be 4 red lines defining the perimeter.  In the lower right corner, the scaling of the box is indicated. If you scale the window so that the box is scaled to 100% as indicated in the lower right corner, the images will be displayed at the resolution as submitted by the photographer.  (You can scale your screen by holding down the commad key on a mac and the Windows key on a PC, and type +or – ).  If you do this, all the images will fall within the area defined by this box at full resolution as submitted (maximum 2800 pixels x 1600 pixels). Photographers have been advised to submit images to make optimal use of this dimension so that their images can be presented as created without rescaling.

Ordering Entries: You can change the priority or ordering of the entries in the judging window. Press the arrow next to the “Ratings” header at the top of the Ratings column to change the priority according to the rating.  This allows you to view a high-to-low (arrow down) list and double check your ratings.  Please make sure you have a single 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and the appropriate number of HM’s (no more than 10% of the total).

Save and Finish:  You can save your ratings and return to them.  When you are finished, it is important that you save your final ratings and then complete the process by clicking the ‘Finish’ button. The software is written so that you cannot return to judging after pressing the Finish button.  If you hit the Finish button by mistake, please contact us and we will reset the flag to allow you to re-enter.  Unfortunately, we are not notified when you have pressed the Finish button, so we would greatly appreciate it if you could notify us when you have finished judging the entries.

Thank you again.  Please let us know if you have any questions.    Your input is greatly appreciated.
