Allen and Julia Gary have given us a great idea for a project during these days of isolation, one that will hold our interest, exhibit our photography in a creative way, teach us some new skills and share our interests with our friends in HPS.

As an HPS project during the COVID-19 confinement, we are issuing a movie Challenge in which HPS members create an under 6-minute movie exhibiting his/her work. This would be a non-judged Challenge, just an interesting way to share our images, thoughts, and creativity with each other. John Shriver, our Webmaster has set up a special page on our Website for the Challenge, and movies sent to John will be featured on this page for everyone to see. As an added benefit, we are considering using this for program night sometime later in the year.

We are grateful to Allen and Julia Gary for initially recommending this challenge, and as an example, they are sharing initially a movie that they did a few years back as an example of what we are looking to share. The movie “Street Photography – Henri Cartier-Bresson, Vivian Maier, and Me” is on the Video Challenge webpage (https://hpsphoto.org/video-challenge), and shows Julia Gary’s photographs in relation to Cartier-Bresson and Maier.

Ideas (more or less since it’s a first attempt) Remember, it’s for fun!

1)     Non-judged Challenge for HPS members.
2)     Movie showing a story using your photographs.
3)     Total running time of under 6 minutes for the complete movie.
4)     The movie must be placed on a site and callable via a web browser.
5)     1-3 members can work on the project showing the work
6)     Movies can be either color or black & white, with sound or without.
7)     Format and resolution as acceptable by YouTube.
8)     Use any movie program (Lightroom, MS Movie Maker, iMovie, etc.) and insert text pages and photos in the movie. One can add the audio track. Save and upload your file to a site such as YouTube.
9)  Record the web site location and send the site link to HPS webmaster, John Shriver.
